Corniglia

Corniglia is one of the beautiful picturesque villages of Cinque Terre in Northern Italy. The Cinque Terre National Park consists of five villages which are joined together by a hiking trail, a train and the sea. Corniglia is the only village out of five that is not directly adjacent to the sea. This village is located higher up than the others and can be reached either by a flight of 377 steps known as the “Lardarina” or via a road that leads from the station to Corniglia.

All the houses in Corniglia have one side facing the road and the other side facing the sea. Corniglia is surrounded by vineyards and terraces. There is one particular terrace at the end of the Via Fieschi which is called the Santa Maria Belvedere after a church that used to stand there and from this vantage point all of the four other Cinque Terre villages can be viewed. Corniglia is characterized by narrow streets.

Largo Taragio is the name of the main square in Corniglia which is really the heart of the village. There are a number of nice cafes in the square.

Cinque Terre is full of fantastic views but some of the best photo opportunities can be found in the village of Corniglia. For really outstanding views one should start walking along the hiking trail towards Vernazza and after about 15 minutes you will come to a spot where the most outstanding views can be seen.
