La Spezia is the capital city of the most beautiful province of Northern Italy. Its harbour is one of the main military and commercial harbours in Italy.

There are a number of churches that tourists can visit in the city including the Abbey Church of Santa Maria Assunta (Our Lady of the Assumption) which hosts quite a number of interesting works of art.

There are also a number of museums including the Civic Museum in the Castle of San Giorgio, “Arnedeo Lia” Museum, Palazzina delle Arti, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (CAMeC), Diocesan Museum, Ethnographic Civic Museum, technical Naval Museum and National Transportation Museum.

For tourist who prefer to be based in a city then La Spezia is the perfect choice because there are plenty of interesting city-type things to see within the city and it is also a great starting point for “prettier” trips which are not too far way. From La Spezia tourists can and should visit the five picturesque villages of Cinque Terre (the Italian Riviera) either by boat or by train and they can also visit Portovenere and Lenci. Tourists will enjoy the contrast of these villages after having experienced the big city. In these villages tourists can enjoy the tremendous views while sipping local wine in a beautiful and tranquil setting.

From La Spezia it is only 20 minutes by taxi to the beautiful city of Florence which is a lovely place to spend an evening. If you are thinking of spending an evening in Florence then try to make it in time for the magnificent sunset.
