The 5 towns on the Ligurian coast of Italy

Manarola

Manarola

Manarola is the second smallest out of five which make up the Cinque Terre National Park in Northern Italy. It is a beautiful and very picturesque village with colourful buildings and stunning views. Manarola has a small harbour which is perfect for fishing and it is also famous for its famous local wine called “Sciacchetra” which tourists can enjoy in one of the local bars or restaurants.

Not to be missed is the Manarola Vineyard Walk. Make your way to the top of the village where the church is located. The church is both a social and religious meeting place which used to be used as a lookout post for potential pirate raids. When you reach the church find the wooden railing which is situated about 20 yards below. This railing marks the beginning of this stunning walk where you will see and smell beautiful lemon trees and rosemary and you will also be able to see the fine workmanship of the region’s dry stone walls which can be found in the vineyards all over Cinque Terre. At the end of the walk you will reach a T-junction where you can either turn right and continue walking to another Cinque Terre village called Corniglia, or left which will lead you back in to Manarola.

If you choose to turn left and go back to Manarola you won’t be disappointed. You will come to the cemetery where you will find a park, a bar and an absolutely amazing view of the sea – this is a perfect photography spot.
